Wake up Sid

Strange as the title may seem, I really want you to wake up Sid ! I just cant believe that You are not there anymore. I want you to wake up as the turn of events over the last couple of days has been cruel to say the least and unjustified. Why you?

I write this piece in memory of a dear friend, a customer, an ardent supporter and more importantly a very good human being. Siddhartha Padam, Sid to me and a lot of us, was sadly killed in a fire accident in Bangalore on 23-Feb while he was at work. He along with 2 of his colleagues was snuffed out by a fire that engulfed the Carlton Towers where his office was located.

My association with Sid started when I joined the Corporate Planning team in Infosys. I always found him to be interesting, full of life and ever smiling. I have learnt a lot from him while we have had numerous coffees, lunches and drinks together. We quit Infosys in 2007 to go our own ways, to explore the world and to seek our destiny. I set up Injoos and Sid started the Chesapeake operations in India. Our association continued as I always looked at Sid as a trusted advisor and have sought his opinion on my business very often. He was quick to point out things and give me feedback on what I should be doing. He also whole heartedly embraced the product we were building - Injoos teamware - and started using it in his organization. He has been a tremendous customer who has stood by us and given us invaluable feedback.

It just doesnt seem right that he is not there anymore. Not because I wont get advice or feedback, but because he did not deserve to leave us this soon and all of us deserved more of him. I sat with him on 18-Jan to videotape his testimonial for Injoos and I still cant believe that a month later, he is not there to see it. It all seems like a game, a cruel Game that god plays with all of us. He takes away good people, people who have made a difference to a lot of fellow human beings. I am overcome by emotions that I cannot describe - sadness, anger, frustration, helplessness…………

I have no words to describe this loss or to offer comforting words to his family. All I can say is my heart goes out to the family and I pray to God to give the family the courage to bear his loss.

Me, my family and my colleagues are with you in this hour of need.

Is it the system that is responsible or is it pure destiny? I dont know the answers but I definitely know that I have lost a very good friend and I once again say, Please Wake up Sid !

Release 4.1 : Introducing Drag and Drop, #Tags and Auto Description

We just did a minor upgrade to the platform to bring you more exciting features to enhance your productivity. The library has been enhanced to give you the ability to drag and drop files and folders. Just grab the file or folder that you would like to move and drop them into the target folder. There is an option to either copy or move the files or folders.

The bookmarklets have been enhanced to allow you to directly get some description for an article you are posting. Just mark the text on the website you are reading and invoke the bookmarklet to post the article into Injoos with the marked teaxt appearing as a short description for the article. You can also tag the article by putting a # before the text to be used as Tag. This can be done in the bookmarklet as well as when creating a news or discussion inside Injoos.

We have also introduced the ability to delete news, discussion and discussion replies. This is available to the creator of the content.

Intranet for your Business - in the Cloud

Real Time Enterprise, Mashups, Collaboration, Software-as-a-Service, Community Management, Social Media - These are no more buzz words that are all over the place. These are the enterprise trends to watch in 2010 according to ReadWriteWeb. Mashable predicts that Social Activism will explode across the web and that that micro-volunteerism will extend beyond Wikis. Enterprises are becoming more and more part of the social revolution.

All these trends are now incorporated into Social Business Software (also known as Enterprise 2.0) products. Injoos Teamware is abreast of this trend and I am excited to write about some new features that have been built into the product in Release 4.0.

Your Intranet in the Cloud

At the forefront of this change is the ability for enterprises to create their corporate Intranets on the Cloud for easy information access and collaboration among team members. What is more, you can lock in the access to only people with corporate email IDs thus preventing unauthorised people from getting into your network. We have also introduced an admin functionality as an overarching feature that allows businesses to manage their networks and users. So go ahead and create your private network for your business and start collaborating.

Groups and Sub-groups and all other collaboration features remain as they are. The difference being that the Groups and Sub-groups now belong to a Network (read Your Company). This will allow businesses to mirror thier organization structure on Injoos easily. For example, create your company network and create groups for each of the departments - say HR, Marketing etc. The subgroups can be used to create programs or initiatives within each department. Whats more, there are projects that can be created both at the Group level as well as the sub group level to track initiatives and tasks.

Widgets and Bookmarklets

Information consumption and creation just became easier with the introduction of 2 new features - Widgets and Bookmarklets.

Injoos Bookmarklet that can be added to your browser bookmarks bar and used to post information directly into Injoos from the website you are reading. Bookmarklet also allows you to choose the group into which the information has to be posted. This powerful feature enhances the information creation ability greatly without having to leave the page one is reading.

Widgets for your Company Network can be embedded on any website or blog easily using the Embed Code provided. This allows information from the company network to be accessed from your website or blog. View the activity feeds for the groups that you are a part of in the network or upload files into the group library via the widget.

Share Files with external users

A great new way to share your files on the group library - we have introduced file sharing with external users that allows a team member (with access) to share files with another user who is not a member of the network. This capability allows collaboration between distributed teams as well as external users.

Back-up your files

Need a backup of the entire library or just a folder? No worries, use the new download option on the library to create a zip of your folder or the entire library (only moderator).

These and many more features of the product make it a powerful platform for businesses to setup their intranets in the cloud and enable their teams to collaborate. It is like having your Private cloud on the Public internet.

Keep track of your team from Anywhere

We are working hard to make Injoos The Collaboration Platform for businesses. We have lined up a set of cool new features in the coming December release that greatly enhance the usability of the product and aid in easier content creation and collaboration from wherever you are.

We are developing a browser widget that you can embed on your site so that Information from your groups inside Injoos is now available to you from wherever you are. You can get feeds from your groups on Injoos, view, download and upload files from the widget directly into the Injoos Library.

We are also introducing a couple of easy ways in which you can share info with your teams as well as tag them appropriately for future reference. Bookmarklets that can be pulled to your browser bookmarks bar to enable you to easily post an interesting thing you are reading on the web into the group as a news item. You can also use the #tags on the words inside the description or the title of the any item you are submitting to create tags on the item. This can be done from the bookmarklet as well!

Enhancements to the Library will include the ability to now share your files and folders with external email IDs for easier collaboration with people not part of your organization. The new download option for the Injoos user will provide an option to download the entire library or a specific folder as a Zip onto the desktop.

Team Injoos contributes to the North Karnataka Flood relief

We decided to do our bit for helping the affected people from this natural calamity. The team contributed to the cause through the Deccan Herald Prajavani Flood Relief Fund.

The entire north Karnataka and parts of coastal and Malnad regions are in the grip of one of the worst natural disasters the State has witnessed in a long time. The floods that have followed the torrential rains have brought unprecedented misery to lakhs of people. It has been in the form of death of many of their loved ones, destruction of houses, properties, crops and loss of most of their belongings. Rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations for the affected people are a gigantic task and it will take weeks, if not months.

Seamless collaboration is being able to get your team members quickly into a project, allow them to easily update the status of the task and comment and review documents without having to switch between multiple applications and the need to have a stoic processes. With the 3.5 release Injoos introduces a new and social way to conduct your business.

You can now use all the social collaboration features of Injoos along with the ability to track and run projects. The new Projects section allows you to keep track of all your projects and tasks under one roof. Get all your team members to socially collaborate on projects. Simple and intuitive workflows can be built on the task to allow you to assign and track the tasks. Easily view the project and task status through the color coded icons. Tasks can also be linked to other items on the group like the News, Events ,Discussions and Files on the library.

Bookmarking has been a great utility for many knowledge workers. Now bookmark all your favorite items across all your groups in Injoos. Add your bookmark for an item by simply clicking the bookmark icon in item detail page. Bookmarks can be accessed and edited from the “My Cabinet” section and from the bottom bar.

You wanted to restrict some events to a sub set of team members in the group. A la private event. Events feature has been enhanced to provide the user a facility to create these private events.

What happens when you don’t have a offline word processor and want to create a document online. You can now create a new Document, Presentation or worksheet completely online and invite you team members to collaborate on it. This feature can be accessed from the Injoos Library.

Finally a cool new way of viewing your pictures stored in the library. Try the new wall!

You have not heard from us for a while and must have started to wonder what was happening at Injoos. We have been working hard to get new powerful tools bolted onto the Injoos Teamware platform which will help you make your collaboration a breeze and get more bang for your valuable time.

The first feature I am excited to talk about is called the “Activity Feeds“. You always wanted to know what your colleagues were upto without waiting for that weekly meeting or the status report. With Activity feeds Injoos now provides a easy but powerful way of tracking activities of the team. Think of this as a dashboard where you get continuous realtime update when a team member uploads a file into the library or posts a new blog or event or starts a discussion.

The new “My Home” section will feature latest activity feeds from all the groups you belong to. Clicking any one of the feed items will take you directly to that specific discussion or news, saving you considerable time and effort. This new page replaces the old “Happenings” page which had become redundant.

With this release (Release 3.0) we have adopted a new layout and we believe that this will enhance your experience many fold and help you get the best of the platform. This is a 3 column layout with action boxes on the left and right and the information element neatly laid down in the center for an enhanced visual appeal. The menus and messages have been made consistent across pages.

The other big enhancement is the “User Profile“. You have always wanted to build a detailed profile which included both professional and personal aspects. With this release you will can build a comprehensive profile and share that with the other team members. Also members can get a snapshot of your group activities on your profile. For an individual, user profile will act as a comprehensive dynamic resume and for the team & managers a comprehensive team directory.

We pumped up the search with many advanced search options and made it available where you would need it. Also search is now sticky and you can go back to your last search results by just clicking the icon on the bottom bar.

There have been many more smaller enhancement and we will be updating the site and help files to reflect the same shortly.

We are on cloud 9, no pun intended! Injoos has now moved to a next generation cloud computing platform. Cloud computing is new way of doing web application hosting. The new showcase a.k.a group website

We now have a true website builder with this release. You can create dynamic portal within minutes. So how does it happen ? Just enable the showcase for your group and jump to the showcase configuration page.

Step 1: Drag and drop widgets. Change the name of the tabs.

Step 2: Select one of the several themes from the scrollbar on the left and then just press apply. You can preview your website also.

Step 3: SEO: Make your website friendly for search engines like google to find it. Add multiple keywords. You can even add analytics code like the popular google analytics which helps track the traffic to your site.

Group Library taken to next level - manage your media & files with ease

Managing your files and media now is much simpler with Injoos. The group library has been completely revamped so that your can either view your files in the way your are used to on your desktop/laptop or in new friendlier web based interface. Here is a look into some of the changes.

Icon view of the files: Right click the icon for detailed actions on each of the file.

List view of the files: You can see complete details of the files like who has uploaded etc.

Gallery view for all the media: All the images can now be displayed in a friendly gallery view for you to browse through. You will see integration with Cooliris which is browser plugin that just blows your off in terms of it’s image rendering.

Slideshow view for images: Get a larger view of the images and browse them in a slideshow.

Folder Management: Now your can create multiple levels of sub folders, move and copy files between folder and set permissions. If you accidentally delete the file you can retrieve it from the recycle bin.

Sharing files with public: The showcase page of your group has now been enhanced to display and allow download of files and media. This can easily be achieved by moving files to the shared folder and setting appropriate permissions to the file by the moderator. The files in the shared folder are displayed on the group portal a.k.a group showcase.

Continuing with the theme we had promised; Customization, we are happy to bring out this new version of Injoos. There are now a whole new set of tools available for enhancing your experience with the platform and making the user interface more fun. We have 20 new templates for showcasing your group website ! Not just that you can drag and drop widgets and change the name of the tabs to your needs. Get a full featured dynamic website up and running in few minutes.

The second big area we have focussed on is the group library. We wanted to enhance the utility of the library so that you could get more form it. This was one of the big suggestion we had got from our early customers. So with R2.1 release you can create multiple sub folders and manage the files in the most familiar manner that you are comfortable with.

Enhancements to the Showcase (Website builder) and the Library

Based on customer feedback we are enhancing the Library and the Showcase on Injoos to provide more powerful and easier to use functionalities.

The Library at the heart of Injoos Teamware allows teams to store documents and collaborate on them using the rich set of features built into the library. No the library is being made more powerful and easier to use. To start with , the current library will give way to a file management system with the facility to create folders easily and add files into them. One can also move, copy , edit, share the documents within the group. The library will also feature access control that enables the owner of the group/document to restrict actions on the documents in the library to members with explicit permission. This feature can be used to create basic workflows for document collaboration within teams. The library will also feature list view (detail) and thumbnail view. Access to different file types is at the click of a button via the filters provided. Image gallery is enhanced to provide a slideshow using the native functionality or with the cool Cooliris (requires pliug-in).

Creation of a showcase (website) for the group is easier and more powerful with the configuration menu revamped. The showcase features customizable pages, themes to match the look and feel of your organization/enterprise, ability to turn on/off information widgets. The showcase also features the view only library view as well as the ability to provide users with the ability to download select documents.

Injoos R2, the second major release is out and this brings together the most comprehensive set of features for collaboration among teams. After being in Alpha for 6 months and getting feedback from the early movers as well as through usability studies, the product has been enhanced inside out keeping in mind the needs of today’s internet user.

The release brings some major enhancements to the product as well as some cool new features. Revamped profile and account settings, a Group Home page from where one can pretty much do all activities, image gallery and slideshow for the library, document viewing and editing through integration with Zoho Docs, subgroups nested under groups to build your org/team structure, web/voice conferencing through integration with DimDim, enhanced showcase (portal) for the group to name a few. Add to that the advanced search that allows one to search inside documents for keywords.

Logging into Injoos or registering with Injoos is now easier with incorporation of OpenID support. You can use your Google or Yahoo userID or any other OpenID provided by providers like Blogspot, SingleID, Verisign etc to easily login to Injoos. No need for lenghty registration process. We have left that to the biggies to authenticate and give us a go ahead. And yes , your ID is absolutely safe as we don’t store your Google or Yahoo ID anywhere on our servers. We just let them authenticate you for us !

To start with, the landing page for your group, which is the showcase page with its subdomain URL or your own URL mapped to the subdomain, has been enhanced give you a rich look and feel. There are custom pages that one can add as well as upload a group logo or banner GIF to create your own identity

Signing into Injoos just became a whole lot easier with the ubiquitous OpenID support. No need for registrations and lengthy procedures involving email confirmations. If you have a Google ID or Yahoo ID or an OpenID provided by Blogger, SingleID, Verisign etc, you can sign into Injoos without registration. Create a login and add as many email Ids or OpenIDs as possible to allow you to login to Injoos.

A home page has been added for your group to allow you to get a snapshot of what is happening on the group in one view.

This page will become customizable so that one can add widgets and customize the layout.

If you are not a member of any Group, you can create a group easily or just browse for a group of your interest from the browse groups functionality. Look for groups based on category, popularity, no of members etc

Teams will love the feature of web conferencing that has been integrated into the calender on Injoos. Injoos has integrated DimDim webconferencing into the product that allows a user to create a web conference on the fly. No software downloads required. All you need to do is to register to DimDim to get a free userID and password. Yes of course the events can be synchronised with the desktop

The Library on Injoos is a powerful feature that enables you to submit various kinds of documents and media for the use of the group. You can store images, video, audio, documents, presentations, spreadsheets etc.

A image gallery has been added to the library that helps you view images as thumbnails or as a slideshow

The library has also been integrated with document viewing and editing software from Zoho. No need of expensive office software. Just upload a file to the library and access it and edit it from wherever you are via the web. Again, no software required …just a browser and connection to the internet.

All the pages on Injoos now feature a top and bottom menu bar. The bottom bar has been designed to give you quick and easy access to various activities as well as allowing you to create news, events, discussion etc easily from any page. The bottom bar also features a windows style menu for access to various groups and setting information. Your personal mailbox and calendar is also one click away from the bottom bar.

The job of the moderator is now easier with access to all the moderation tools from a easily accessible window.

The user controls for Account setup, profile setup and preferences for email notifications have also been enhanced and made easy.

The Big Release

Upcoming features in 2009

As Jags said we are looking to add some interesting features to make the Injoos team-ware experience even better. Here are few of them we are working on which we will be delivering shortly:

Group - Sub Groups: We realize that organizations needs a ability to create smaller teams form their members to work on specific projects or initiative. The group - sub group feature will allow you to create multiple sub groups under any group and get all the collaboration tools for this sub group. Access controls can be setup for the same.

Customization: We understand the need for teams to personalize their workspaces and website. Keeping this in mind we will bring in customization to the Injoos team-ware. The groups can add banners, logos and choose color that reflect their identity.

Binary search: While we have powerful search to look into all the information that gets generated. We plan to enhance the same to search inside the stored documents.

Open ID: Registering with Injoos will become easier we will be enabling logging in through User ID and password of popular websites like Google and Yahoo through the implementation of Open ID standard.

RSS out: Look for easily sharing updates with other or tracking them through the RSS out feature for the showcase items.

What a year it was ! Burning midnight oil in our first office we put heart and soul in building the first avatar of Injoos team-ware. On June 5th 2008 we launched Injoos in it’s limited Alpha mode and received a torrent of feedback from enthusiastic supporters. This made our booth in the Startup City event to receive the highest footfall. With all the collated feedback we started enhancing Injoos team-ware with the goal of getting out of Alpha into the first release by end of the year.

This year also gave us an opportunity to interact with you and get to know your needs better. With your continued support we aspire to make Injoos team-ware as the preferred solution for collaboration needs of teams world-wide. As I have said earlier our focus at Injoos has been to continue to innovate and add new useful functionalities to the Injoos team-ware platform. The weekend release code named “Blue” added a host of features which include:

Rich text editor for news – bullet, number list, hyperlink, annotate and change the colour of your content. Edit the content in a full page editor. You can also submit your story in any Indian language using Unicode.

Calendar changes – Events functionality has now been enhanced to include reminder notifications and recurring meetings. There is also an option to sync the event with a desktop client like iCal or Outlook. View the event listing as a daily view or a monthly calendar view.

Searching communities became easier with the category view (default). View a list of communities by category. View the profiles and join communities that match your interests. Switch to the card view when required.

Enahanced community member profile - now view greater detail of your fellow community members on the member center. Of course this is subject to if the member has chosen to make his profile public and viewable by all community members

View documents inside Injoos – Zoho viewer now integrated with Injoos. You can now read documents, browse spreadsheets or see presentations from inside Injoos. All without the necessity of having a Microsoft Office or Open Office or any other productivity suite.

Import news and articles into your community through RSS. The moderator of the group can add RSS feeds on topics related to interests of the community. News from the feeds can be selected and posted into the community for consumption by all. Filter news from around the world through RSS into your community

Employee communication challenges in today’s environment - Part 2

Case 2: Progressive large organization

This is a fairly large organization with more than 10000+ people. The organization recognized early the need of a dedicated employee communication cell. The team came up with a plan of using multiple delivery mechanisms for communicating with the employees. The email messages were replaced with online campaigns with polls and feedback, the regular town hall sessions were now webcast live, online chat sessions were arranged with the CEO and Senior Managers etc.

Well all this did give a fillip and excited the younger employee more in interacting with the senior leaders but like everything else it did fade out. There were some inherent problems for e.g. with webcast it was seen as impersonal and distancing with no direct feedback mechanism. Even the chat did not gain in popularity as high level of moderation was clearly evident. So what went wrong ? Well for organized orchestrated communication meetings and events does not engage the entire organization. What still works is personal communications by line managers in smaller groups of people.

If this can be complimented with online groups platform where team constantly engage with each other and their managers the pressure on the employee communication cell as the sole mouth piece of the organization goes down. This team can now focus on gathering data through an organization wide group network and analyze to find patterns and then insert the proper messages at the points where it makes an impact. For example if a group is posting news items and stories on it’s news board it also gets a message from the communication cell clearly marked as one of the news items. If it interests the group the team starts to comment on the item and rate it up so that to stay on top of their message heap. A very effective way to create a sticky message!

Power to the People campaign

We at Injoos are trying to showcase “Power of Groups” through a campaign “Power of the people”. This is a theme based campaign where people have to create groups based on themes like Technology, Entertainment and People to name a few. The contest will illustrate the Power of Groups. It will showcase the news and information created by groups and the value created by it.

Injoos is also inviting the Students across different educational institutes in Bangalore, India. The most valuable Student Group will be identified and awarded as “The Best College group”.

The Campaign opens on November 10^th and closes on December 10^th, 2008. Registration for the contests has already started and the further details can be downloaded from Injoos website www.injoos.com/power.

Faster speed of communication through SMS, Twitter,
Everyone has an opinion. Blogs!
Management still stuck with old paradigms and old notions.
Nothing beats a personal touch even today in the digital age.
How do we handle scale, multi geo communication?

Some of the best practices used in leading companies:

Case 1: Small sized IT firm

The organization in it’s infancy has 200+ IT professionals and has been growing. The internal Information systems team had setup couple of online Bulletin boards. Basically this was implemented using Microsoft outlook shared folders visible to all. The employee and management bot could post messages, the Bulletin board was divided into various section line Official, Buy and Sell, Sports & Interests, General etc. There were also email IDs published for various functions such as Canteen, facilities etc. The employees could send emails to these concerned person or team using these mails ids. There was bulletin board usage guidelines published. Anyone violating the norms was communicated by the HR team.

Since the general culture of the organization was open people tended to discuss issues of concern on the bulletin board for e.g. quality of food deteriorating in the canteen and the response of the food manager. Th HR person kept regular tab on these messages and immediately caught any issues early before it blew into a major fiasco. The HR Manager also quickly brought relevant issues to the notice of senior managers to take actions and communicate back to the concerned parties.

The advantage of the electronic medium from this example is obvious that the manage could detect issues early and come up with solutions. But the fact is that it takes a daring employee to go and raise issue in the bulletin board. What if there was mechanism where casual discussions or chats happening between employees could be looked at to see if there are common patterns and identify issues. Something like having casual canteen discussions and see what the hot topic is.

These things are now possible in the online world with web2.0 tools used widely in social networks and social media sites. For example rating news posted bubbles up the hit news to the top or looking at a tag cloud shows what are the hot topics being discussed. If mechanism like these are adopted inside organizations for example having a platform to support organization wide groups and teams will help HR and senior management unravel many of these issues way in advance, get feedback on policies implemented etc, Thus overall improving the communication with the employes.

Injoos takes Hampi Utsav to the people

Here is an easter egg on Injoos. You can create groups where members can communicate comfortably in their regional languages. This means that you can not say pickup a regional news content but also comment and discuss in your language. This happens as Injoos supports unicode technology. Please install Barahawhich supports major Indian languages on your machine. For e.g. checkout dasara.injoos.com which has posts in Kannada language.

Dasara Jambu Savari watched live in 76 countries

In one of the momentous occassion of Mysore Dasara in the recent past, the Jambo Savari Live Webcast on Mysore Dasara’s official website was well received all around the world. Kannada Kootas from USA to Australia have sent congratulatory messages for making such an effort to the Mysore Dasara Mahotsava Samithi as well as to all the persons involved in bringing this webcast.

There were more than 2,59,452 visitors from 76 countries like USA, UK, Australia, Canada, France, UAE, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore who visited the website. There are replies and appreciation from Singapore Kannada Koota and Kentucky Kannada Koota, showing that the Kannadigas outside are as enthusiastic in being part of Mysore Dasara as the people here. The web visitors spent an average of 5 minutes in the website, before the webcast. This went up during and after the webcast.

Perhaps, for the first time, a live public festivity of such magnitude has been webcast in India

Injoos has always strived to create a online home for the real world groups and communities. The Showcase feature which was released last week is an endeavor towards that goal. With the release of this feature groups can now showcase their activities to the world. This could mean more participation for their cause or just more awareness of the kind of things they do.

One of the key design goals we had undertaken was to ensure that the groups not just decide wether they like to have a showcase page or not, but also decide what content goes out on the page. This is their showcase to the world and we felt that the groups need to have control of what they want to show. The moderator of the group has full control on picking the news items or discussions he/she wants to be showcased. But if the groups is say public and moderator is not so particular about which item is on the showcase he/she also has the option not to put any filter and get everything out as it happens.

So now you could create a dynamic webpage for your group instantly. The page has Pictures, Announcements, Upcoming events, News, Discussions, Links and Details and Statistics about the group. The group members could now use this as their landing page and login to Injoos. The URL for this page could be Groupname.injoos.com.

To turn on the showcase for your group goto Community Settings on the moderator menu. Click the showcase tab and choose the desired subdomain. One your have successfully created your subdomain you can goto the showcase tab again and configure your showcase page in a WYSIWYG format.

Share a News Story
Members can post news or information stories to the group. News stories can have text, multiple pictures, and multiple web links to external sites.

Organize an Event
Members can add an event to the Group Calendar, giving details of date, location of event, with text and picture descriptions, and track those members who are attending the event.
Add a picture of the map, routes or venues, pictures of activities or sponsors, or photos of the last event to provide more information.

Share rich media from other sites
News items can have embedded content that members can see on the same page, without moving to another website - such as videos from Youtube, picture albums from Flickr, slide presentations from Slideshare, and many more, making the news story more powerful.

Add a Poll
Injoos offers flexible polls (multiple choice answers, upto four answers) that members can add to any news or event item, to survey the group’s opinion on any topic, as poll statistics.

Start a Discussion
Members can start discussions on new topics, or reply to an ongoing discussion. Each discussions can have many threads or sub topics. The Moderator can create multiple forums or discussion rooms to organize the discussions on different subjects.

Build/Browse a Group Library
The Group Library can hold documents, media like pictures, videos and music, or one of the many supported file types, shared by members for the benefit of the whole group. All members can browse through the library folders, or search for a document name or type. They can create their own folders, or upload new files and documents.
Members can also add web links to each document, pointing where more information is available.

Member Feedback
Members can comment on all news, events, and library items to provide their views, ideas, questions and suggestions to the member who posted it, or requests for more information.

Ratings
Members can also rate News or Library items up or down, indicating their recommendation. This allows other members to see recommended information in the Group.

Messaging Center
Members can send private messages to other members through the messaging center, which is full featured with private member Inbox, message reply and forwarding, New message composition and Group address book. Moderators can send Announcements to the whole group through the Messaging Center.

Email Updates
Members can receive updates on new information in their groups through emails. Members have control over how many updates they get, and can also turn off this option.

Tagging and Searching
Members can add topic labels called ‘tags’ to all content in Injoos to make them easily searchable for themselves or others. Tagging allows members to browse all news, events, library documents etc on a single topic, and also to see what topics are popular in the group.
A member can also search through all content posted to the group using the Search feature, using keywords, which may appear in any item’s title or text.

Manage Spam or Abuse
All members can report an item to the Moderator as spam, copyright violation or abuse, including the news items, events, discussions and library documents. The Moderator reserves the right to delete or cleanup such items, and warn or suspend a member for such activities.

Multiple Moderators for a large or active group
A Group Moderator can invite other members to become additional Moderators and share the work of managing a large or very active group.

Moderator Tools
Moderators can change settings for the group such as Auto approval of members. They can provide community information for new members such as description, location and charter, set up Joining forms for new members to fill, approve new memberships. They can send announcements to the entire group. Moderators can suspend membership for abuse, and cleanup spam items. They can also see a history log of their activities.

You could also add news, events and start discussions right from this page. The widgets on the right hand side give you a quick access to your messages, event registrations and items you have posted.

The alpha version of Injoos (www.injoos.com), the most full-featured platform for building online communities, is live. Injoos communities have member-only access, with features like moderator approval of members, private (unlisted) communities, and spam/abuse management.

We know a lot of interest has been generated in our product. It’s a great moment for us to. We enjoyed creating Injoos for you. We’d like you to try it and provide feedback before the platform goes into a general release. Tell us how easy or hard it is to use, how special (or generic) the features are… anything.

Its easy to get started

• Register for an account at www.injoos.com. You may want to think up a good nickname for yourself.

• You’ll get an email confirmation, with a link to join.

• Click on the link to confirm.

• Login.

It’s easy to join

• Explore Injoos (use the link at the top of the page).

• Search for communities - by interests or activities. (If you type a ‘%” sign, all public communities on Injoos will show up).

• Want to join a public community. Just make a request to join it, or

• Create your own community (decide whether it will be public or private) and invite others.

That’s it.

Once you’ve joined a community, you can share buzz, update group calendars or restart your favorite arguments on the discussion board. Injoos even lets you share rich media like photos, embedded videos and slides, audio and other files as well as links to your community.

What’s where on Injoos

The Happenings page has the latest community news, events and discussions.

The Resource Center is your community library. You can add new files for the use of the community, or download files from there for your use.

The Member Center has all the information about the community. While there, check out the Tags page to see what’s really moving and shaking up the community.

The Sidebar stores your latest stuff - messages, your events, items you shared recently, etc.

Use Ratings and comments. When you see an article or event you like, give it an Up rating (or Down if you don’t like it). Add a comment to any news or events. You can even add a poll to news or events, to see if others agree with what you think.

Share News and Events. These buttons let you spread the word to your community about interesting news, articles or events. These could be text, images, links, even links to videos (Youtube gives you embed code you can paste in to link).

Start Discussions. What’s a group without discussions? Click on the discussion button to start the group thinking and talking.

If you need to change your Injoos account settings, click the My Profile or My Account links at the top right of the page. While you’re there, you can check your messages and your calendar, etc there. When you want to go back to your community, select it from the My Communities box at the top right corner.

Be a Good Communitizen. If you see something inappropriate or nasty or spammy, show your concern - report it to the Moderator.

Welcome to Injoos blog, where the team at Injoos writes their mind about communities.

Like many of you, the team at Injoos have all been part of online groups and networks for a while. We feel there is a need for making these communities much more powerful - a lot that could happen, but was not happening, in terms of sharing, interaction and collaboration among the members.

So we came up with Injoos - a platform for communities. We wanted Injoos to be a place where you can find or create a community of people with common identity. These are people sharing your life - your background, your interests, your values or just a common space - where you live, work, learn, play or hang out.

This blog is not about Injoos as such, but about communities. Your comments are welcome - if you’ve got a great story about how communities are making a difference to you or where you live, then do share it here.
